Bern (or Berne) is a medium-sized city and the capital of Switzerland. It features 4 miles of walkways (arcaded) along streets and has several fountains and clock-towers. Most of Bern's residents speak German, it has many tourist attractions, museums and historic sites. Bern is about 120 km from Zuirch and about 150 km from Geneva. Tourist office of Bern is located at the train station. 



Popular Tourist Attractions of Bern (Berne) are:Bern House of Parliaments, Switzerland

* House of Parliaments (Bundeshaus) : These are impressive buildings above the river. This reprehensive building was built in the end of 19th century. The new look Parliament square was inaugurated on 1 August 2004 (Swiss National Day). This tourist attraction draws tours to this magnificent building.

* Einsteinhaus: Albert Einstein and his wife had rented this small apartment when he was working in Bern at the Swiss patent office. There are several original documents and photos from Einstein's life and work.

* The Clock Tower with moving puppets: It is located near the center of the old town of Bern. Every hour throughout the day there is a stunning show of early animatronics technology. This is a very famous tourist attraction.

* Visit the Gurten which is a beautiful hill outside the city and you can see a nice view of the Bernese Alps on one side and panoramic city view on the other.

* Museum of Fine Art and the Bern Historical Museum.

* Jazz festival happens in the second quarter of the year.

* Ride the horse-drawn carriages in summer.

* Onion festival held in November.

* Bear Pit: Located in the eastern end of the city, it is one of the symbols of Bern located close to the Nydeck bridge.

* Other attractions include Garden of Roses (Bern's most beautiful and romantic park with about 220 different kinds of roses)

* Other things to do in Bern include a visit to the Botanical Gardens

The best way to reach Bern is by train and the station is well connected to other parts of the city via the buses. The two popular golf courses include Golfclub Bern and Blumisberg G & CC. Bern was allegedly named after a bear hunt. Apart from tourist attractions in Bern, for nightlife there are several famous bars and dance clubs, some of these are Marian's Jazz Room, Mocambo, Arlequin Bar and Klotzlikeller.
